Today I am going to share with you ..Punjabi Dhaniya Dum Aloo Recipe. Here coriander (Dhaniya) has been used in 3 Ways. -coriander seeds, coriander powder and fresh coriander leaves…. For that reason this unique Punjabi recipe named as Punjabi Dhaniya Dum Aloo.



Mustard oil (2 tbsp oil for frying potatoes + 6 tbsp oil for cooking)

500g potatoes

1 tbsp coriander seeds

1 large chopped onion

1 tsp ginger paste

1 tsp garlic paste

Water (1/4 cup water for saute and 1 cup for gravy)

6 slited green chillies

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder

2 tbsp coriander powder

1 large chopped tomato

2 tsp salt

2 tbsp sugar

2 tsp tamarind water


1 bunch of fresh coriander leaves

1. Heat mustard oil in a pan.

2. Then fry boiled potatoes (peel off) on high flame with 1 pinch of turmeric powder till potatoes turn golden brown in colour.

3. After frying set aside

4. Heat fresh mustard oil again

5. Now add coriander seeds

6. When it spluttering add chopped onion

7. Fry on medium flame until golden brown colour

8. Then add ginger paste, garlic paste,

9. Add water

10. Add green chillies, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder, coriander powder

11. Add chopped tomato, salt

12. Keep stirring until oil spills out from spice

13. Now add sugar, fried potatoes

14. Mix well

15. Add water

16. Keep flame on high

17. Now add tamarind water

18. Add fresh coriander leaves

19. Serve with roti/ parantha / rice / pulao

Serve: 4
